The Team Behind ShapeSense

We are engineers, industry practitioners, and AI researchers united by a simple belief: Great Manufacturing Is Accumulated Human Intelligence. Our mission is to build software that respects that intelligence, preserves it, and makes it available when decisions are made.

Chetan Anand

Founder · LinkedIn

Chetan spent 25 years at the intersection of engineering and industry before building ShapeSense.

He began his career as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army, where he learned that important decisions rarely wait for perfect information. He later joined GE Energy sourcing and supply chain, where he saw how often the right answer existed somewhere inside the organization — but arrived too late to influence the outcome.

Over the next eleven years at PwC, he advised Aerospace & Defence manufacturers across the United States, Europe, and India. Different industries. Different countries. Different scales. Yet the same pattern kept repeating: companies had accumulated decades of engineering knowledge, but their systems could not connect it when it mattered most.

It was a pattern he would encounter again and again.

Aditi

Founding Engineer · LinkedIn

Aditi leads the engineering and AI systems that power ShapeSense.

Before ShapeSense, she worked on computer vision systems for medical diagnostics, including photo-refractor based eye analysis and Dry Eye Syndrome detection from clinical imaging. That experience reinforced a belief that continues to shape ShapeSense today: “Shape” contains meaning. In medicine, shape can reveal disease. In engineering, shape reveals function, intent, constraints, and relationships.

She became fascinated by the challenge of teaching machines to understand shapes with the same precision and context as human experts. For the last two years, she has focused on building systems that interpret engineering shapes, drawings, specifications, and product structures with the accuracy and context required for manufacturing decisions.

Our Story

In early 2024, we visited manufacturers throughout the industrial ecosystem — OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and contract manufacturers. We wore visitor badges, walked shop floors, and sat with engineers, sourcing teams, production planners, and owners. We kept asking the same questions. Mostly, we listened.

How long does it take to go from a design change to a supplier quote? Usually measured in weeks.

How do you know if a similar part already exists somewhere else in the company? Often uncertain.

What happens when the one engineer who knows where everything leaves the company? Everybody laughed.

Not because the information didn’t exist — because it already did. CAD models, drawings, ERP systems, supplier records, spreadsheets, historical programs. Decades of engineering knowledge had accumulated within the enterprise, but it remained scattered among people, formats, and systems that were never designed to work together.

Every sourcing decision, RFQ, design change, standardization effort, and reuse opportunity depended on people manually stitching information together from disconnected systems. We saw the same pattern in every company we visited.

That was the moment we realized this wasn’t simply a workflow problem. It was an engineering intelligence problem.

That’s why we built ShapeSense.

We Believe

Great manufacturing is accumulated human intelligence.

The kind that takes years to build.

It lives in:

  • How an engineer interprets a drawing.
  • How a sourcing leader knows which supplier to trust.
  • How a quality inspector notices what the specification doesn’t explicitly say.
  • How a production planner balances competing constraints and keeps everything moving.
  • How an owner carries decades of decisions, lessons, relationships, and trade-offs that shaped the business.

For decades, manufacturers have captured pieces of this intelligence inside CAD models, drawings, specifications, and enterprise systems. But capturing intelligence is not the same as connecting it.

We believe manufacturers need software that respects accumulated knowledge, preserves it, and makes it available when decisions are made.

It remains the foundation of everything we build.

Where We Work

We work with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers across India, the United States, and Europe. We are early, deliberate, and deeply engaged with every manufacturer we partner with — because the problems we are solving cannot be understood from a distance.

Every customer teaches us something new about how engineering intelligence is created, lost, shared, and reused.
